128Mb Video Cards

Using a 128Mb video card for Oblivion can be very frustrating. Most of the texture packs described on the TOTO site will not perform well on a 128Mb card, especially if the card has a slow memory interface. Although it might be possible to use the recommended World Textures for a 256Mb card while playing the game on medium-quality settings, there are several alternatives that will probably work better.

Landscape Textures

For landscape textures, you will likely get the best results from installing the following texture packs:

  1. CaptNKILLs NonTiling Texture Mod
  2. Zacharot's CaptNKILL Rocks 1024 LOD
  3. Bluesteel's LandscapeLOD NormalMap Fix MipMap Fix v.1.1 (by Soor)

One other possibility, if you prefer to continue using the vanilla Oblivion landscape textures, is to improve them by adding Qarn's Landscape NormalMap Fix . This should significantly improve the appearance of the vanilla landscape textures. However, Quarn's mod should only be used if you're NOT using a landscape texture replacer. If you use it with a landscape texture replacer, the diffuse textures and normal maps will not match. For example, if you installed Quarn's normal maps after installing QTP2, Better Tilling, or CaptnKill NonTiling, your landscape would look really, really funky.

Everything Else

The two main alternatives right now are Wiseman's textures and LoRise's textures. These packs take opposite approaches to improving the 128Mb visual experience. We are very interested in hearing user reports from people who have tried both approaches.

Wiseman's Reduced Textures
With Wiseman's Reduced Textures, the recommended quality setting is high, so most textures will be high-resolution except for the ones Wiseman has replaced. Here is the list of texture packs in the set:

  1. Wisemans Reduced Textures v11 Part 1
  2. Wisemans Reduced Textures v11 Part 2
  3. Wisemans Reduced Textures v11 Part 3
  4. Wisemans Additional Reduced Textures

LoRise's Cyrodiil Complete
With LoRise's Cyrodiil Complete, the recommended quality setting is small (although medium will also work), so most textures will be low-resolution except for the ones LoRise has replaced. Here is the list of texture packs in the set:

  1. LoRises Cyrodiil Complete Part 1
  2. LoRises Cyrodiil Complete Part 2
  3. LoRises Cyrodiil Complete Part 3
  4. LoRises Cyrodiil Complete Part 4
  5. LoRises Cyrodiil Complete Patch 1
  6. LoRises Cyrodiil Complete Part 5
  7. LoRises Cyrodiil Complete Patch 2

If you use Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, Gorric has also created a set of textures for use with that mod. These should be installed after the LoRise's Cyrodiil Complete set. Here's the OOO list:

  1. LoRises OOO 131 for Cyrodiil Complete Part 1
  2. LoRises OOO 131 for Cyrodiil Complete Part 2
  3. LoRises OOO 131 for Cyrodiil Complete Part 3
